Tuesday 29 April 1969
Work began at 7:30 with seven workmen. Judith Brunner and David Wilson are supervising.
Workers continue to remove the section of late rubble wall at E- L: 25-27 in Trench T14 69-1.
Other workers have begun surface clearing on the area that will be trench T14 69-3. (To the north of, and adjacent to, T14 69-2).
| Box #86 contains sherds from beneath late rubble wall: E-L; 25-27: 39.6 to 39.18 m. Trench 69-1 | lotted and saved entirely |
Measurements for T14 69-3 have been made and the trench staked. The east and west boundaries are each 3.0 m. long. The west boundary is an extension of the west boundaries of T14 69-1 and T14 69-2.
The north and south boundaries are each 5.30 m. in length.
Due to the fact that the trench was designed to include a 1967 trench--and to incorporate its north scarp into the north scarp of T14 69-3-- the trench is not rectangular, but has instead the shape of a parallelogram.
The grid for trench T14 69-3 is in themap indexof this volume. The plan includes the 1967 trench and the wall on a rubble foundation at its bottom.
The portion of rubble wall has now been removed and the newly exposed section of steps cleaned. As expected, the two upper courses show finishing marks from fine-toothed chisels on their vertical and horizontal surfaces.
Excavation of T14 69-3 will destroy the north scarp of T14 69-2. A section against the north scarp of 69-2 is on p. 5 showing strata and relation of walls and cutting.
A photograph was taken of stone steps in T14 69-1 after removal of the wall. From west towards Fortress Wall in east. TJJ 69-2 19/20.

Sketch of a porous limestone block removed from ground level in T14 69-3, J-N: 9-12. This block has been moved to a location just north and west of trench 69-3.
A piece of chain mail (IM 69-7) was found in T14 69-3 at L-21, 15 cm. below surface (40.20 m.). IM69-7
Another block with working was found in the surface destruction debris.

Removed to stone storage area NW of 69-3.
