History 504.02
First Internet Assignment
This assignment is due in class on October 12. Late assignments will be accepted but will be subject to a substantial reduction in grade. You should visit one of the sites below that deal with the history of civilization and cities in the ancient Near East. If you have not had much experience evaluating web sites, you may wish to investigate a program such as the OSU Library's NetTutor -- remember that everything you see on the Internet is not necessarily true, accurate, or even honest. As you look at the site you should consider the following questions:
1. Precisely what is the topic/subject of the site?
2. How well does it present the information? Is it easy to understand? Is it easy to follow the links?
3. Are there biases or errors in the site? Do you find it unacceptable in some way or another?
4. Would you recommend this site as a reliable source of information?
Then, write a paper that evaluates the web site along the lines listed above. Be critical and explain your point of view using specific examples and information. The main point should be to judge the site on its presentation and historical reliability.
Your paper should be no more than 2 pages typed (500 words). It should clearly state the name of the site you are evaluating and present your argument clearly.
